The Journal of Neonatal Nursing will be publishing a Special Issue focusing on the topic of Feeding and is currently seeking papers. Please see the Editorial for more details.

Sick and premature neonates present a number of challenges in regards to their feeding and nutrition. Growth remains a key outcome and one of the main foci for intervention on the neonatal unit. However balancing the need for increased weight and height with the establishment of oral feeding can be a challenge

A range of disciplines can be involved in families’ and infants’ care. Team composition and access to specialist services vary but good working practices including multidisciplinary guidelines and training have optimized outcomes and made efficient use of sometimes scarce resources. Feeding takes up a significant amount of the neonatal nurse’s time and is critical to an infant’s outcome. Sharing good practice and research in this field is vital.

The Journal of Neonatal Nursingwould like to publish a Special Issue which will broaden the scope of existing practices and approaches to feeding and nutrition and report on practice and research in this specialist area. Submissions may range from single case studies and documentation of successful local practice initiatives to larger research studies detailing feeding and nutritional interventions and their outcomes. The journal also welcomes papers reflecting the range of practice internationally.
